I found myself reflecting lately...
My dad has always said, “You always got to be doing something,” and thinking about that now makes me laugh. He is right. But he knows that when I have my mind dead set on something, then I will do whatever I can to make it happen.
Backstory: Three years ago, I was just a few months away from graduating college. I was on the phone with my dad when I casually mentioned “I’ve been doing some research, and I want to start an online boutique.” He said “Yeah, okay,” brushing it off, not thinking I was serious. A few weeks later, I called him and said “I submitted everything needed, and now I have all the official tax and business stuff set up.” He responded with “How you think you’re about to do this... and you’re about to start teaching”
Fast forward: I’ll admit, the first year or two was tough. Building an online business from scratch wasn’t easy, and I didn’t always put in the time or energy it needed to grow. There were even moments when I thought “Maybe this was a mistake. I should have known I wouldn’t be able to make anything out of this.”
Here I am years later… I will be the first to tell you this business is not some big/viral boutique, nor does it provide enough to replace an income.
BUT I will tell you, I have watched it grow so much just in the past year. I have something that is mine. & It makes me proud, honestly.
Am I exhausted? Yes. Am I about to spend hours tonight finishing grad school assignments last minute? Yes.
But was it all worth it? Absolutely, 100%
This past weekend was one of the best. I met so many wonderful people who became customers, and even other small business owners.
I have so much to be thankful for. I couldn’t do this without my amazing friends, fiance, and family who have supported me & what used to be an impulsive dream.
